Electricity Dependency

This was a collaboration with my daughter Alicia Solomon. I described a scene about a young person connected to electricity with an older generation connected through fire. The orange represent the glow of fire. The blue screen represents the glow of electricity. The young person has their back to the fire and older generation. The Indigenous way of connecting around the fire is in contrast to the way connecting through using electricity do not mesh well.

I worked on this with my daughter Alicia Solomon. I described a scene and asked her to illustrate it pencil to paper. I captured the lines and worked on it in Adobe Fresco. I then did some finals edits in Adobe Photoshop for finalization.

The meaning is how our connections have changed from one generation to the next. In the Indigenous experience, our ancestors or older generations connected through fire. Today, the young people connect through a different energy called electricity. The earphones represent the way this new connection cuts off the self from others.
